(Carlsbad, CA - June 27, 1994) -- Data Trek, Inc. today introduces additional ways for schools to achieve ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliance in their libraries. Touch Screen monitors and V View software can be combined with Data Trek's School Series library automation software to meet the requirements of ADA. School libraries can now increase access to information for both staff and students with visual impairments with a premier library automation package.
"Data Trek, Inc. strives to provide a variety of automation options for school libraries," Chief Executive Officer Scot Cheatham said. "The Touch Screen monitors and V View software are ideal for visually impaired library staff and students," he continued.
Data Trek, Inc. offers three Touch Screen monitors to make online searching even easier, and V View, a screen magnifying software product. Both products seamlessly integrate with Data Trek's School Series library automation software to make online catalog access easier.
With Touch Screen monitors, less typing is required, which reduces the time spent accessing the online catalog records. All three Touch Screen monitors are designed to work with Data Trek's School Series GoPAC software, a Windows-based Online Public Access Catalog, and Image Link, an add-on software product that imports and links scanned images (such as photos, maps and graphics) to bibliographic records in your database.
Data Trek, Inc. can accommodate different needs of both library staff and students by offering two models, A and B, which implement capacitive-sensing technology, and a third Touch Screen model, C, which uses pressure-sensing technology. Capacitive technology requires a human finger to activate its features, whereas a pressure-sensitive screen reacts to any type of contact, for example, a pointing device or a pencil eraser.
The V View system is designed for library staff or students who cannot see the standard size print on the computer screen. V View provides direct screen magnification of all text and graphics appearing on any screen. A three-button mouse enables you to adjust magnification up to 16 times, to scroll through the entire screen, and to return to the full screen immediately.
V View has three presentation views: (1) full screen magnification; (2) ruler view, where a single movable line is magnified; and (3) dual view, where a single line is magnified in a bar at the bottom of the screen.
Designed exclusively for the school library, the School Series is extremely user-friendly, with on-screen help available at both staff and student levels. Its straightforward screen design makes the software easy to learn and use. The integrated Main Menu in the School Series allows users to quickly switch from module to module.
The basic School Series package includes four integrated modules: Cataloging, Circulation, Databridge (a MARC record import/export utility), and EasySearch (an online public access catalog).
In addition, there are three optional add-on modules: School MARC Archive (a utility for storing and maintaining full-MARC records), School OPAC, and School GoPAC. A free sampler disk is available for IBM and IBM-compatible computers.
Data Trek, Inc. created the School Series to meet the specific automation needs of school libraries and to provide school librarians with a full-featured automation system at an affordable price. Unlike other task-specific products for school libraries, the School Series combines all of the standard automation components into a complete, integrated system. For a limited time, the School Series package is being offered at the introductory price of $1295 (retail value of $1595). This special price includes one full year of software support and the School MARC Archive add-on module (a combined value of $1595 in free software and technical product support).
Data Trek, Inc., founded in 1981, is a privately-held software company that produces and markets a complete line of microcomputer turn-key library automation systems. Located in Carlsbad, Calif, Data Trek, Inc. also has 19 offices and affiliates worldwide.
