(Carlsbad, CA - Sept. 9, 1993) -- Data Trek. Inc. today introduces three touch screen monitors available for use with their GoPAC, a Windows-based Online Public Access Catalog software product. With a touch screen monitor and Data Trek's software, libraries can address the issues raised by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and increase access to information for both their staff and the public.
"Touch screen monitors make searching even easier. Less typing is required, which reduces the time spent accessing the online catalog," stated Chief Executive Officer Scot Cheatham. "Data Trek, Inc. strives to provide as many automation options for libraries as possible.'
Two models, A and B, implement capacitive-sensing technology. The third model, C, uses pressure-sensing technology. Capacitive technology requires a human finger to activate its features; whereas a pressure-sensitive screen reacts to any type of contact, for example a pointing device or a pencil eraser.
Model A combines high performance, durability and clarity in its all-glass construction. The screen's effectiveness is not hindered by dirt, grease, or humidity. Model A comes with a 14" Super-VGA curved monitor and all the necessary software and cables. Model B's touch screen uses the same technology as Model A. but has a diagonal measurement of 17" and a flat screen. Model B also comes with the appropriate software and cables.
Data Trek's Model C touch screen has a hard-coated resistive membrane protecting it from being scratched by any hard objects. The 14" Super-VGA monitor's curved screen includes all software and cables. Basic requirements for all three models include a 15-pin VGA monitor board and a serial port.
Data Trek, Inc., founded in 1981, is a privately-held software company that produces and markets a complete line of microcomputer turn-key library automation systems. Located in Carlsbad, Calif., Data Trek, Inc. also has 19 offices and affiliates worldwide.
