HP tries again

Library Systems Newsletter [December 1999]

Hewlett-Packard, - which appeared to surrender the low-end UNIX server market to Sun and IBM a year ago, has launched a new effort to become a serious player in the under $15,000 UNIX server market. It has begun shipping its HP9000 L-class servers. The L-l000 will have up to 4.0 GB of memory; the L-2000 will have up to 8.0 GB of memory. Systems will be avail-able in up to four-way processor configurations. Libraries which make software only purchases from automated library system vendors, and purchase hardware separately, should look at the new HP servers.
