Huntsville, AL (January 28, 1997) - Sirsi Corporation announced today the license of UNICORN to the College of the Rockies located in Cranbrook, SE British Columbia, Canada.
In its 20 year history, the College of the Rockies has changed significantly. From a handful of classrooms scattered into downtown Cranbrook, to a comprehensive multi-campus system, the College of the Rockies is committed to creating and providing high-quality, relevant, flexible, life-long educational and training opportunities for learners.
The library provides both reference and information services to the college and to the public. The College is running UNICORN on a DEC Alpha 1000 System. Holdings include a collection of 40,000 titles including books, video programs, magazines, government documents, newspapers, pamphlets, media programs and computer programs. Heather Schneider, College of the Rockies Director of Information and Educational Technology stated that they were "looking for a software package that would help lead the college into the 21st Century and we b elieve that we have found such a software package in SIRSI's UNICORN." Ms. Schneider also said "Once implemented, we will have a fully integrated and dynamic automation system that will make one stop information shopping possible in our College and region. In particular the College was impressed with UNICORN's client/server architecture, UNIX platform, accessibility via the internet using standard web browsers and the flexibility and customization that the system has which accommodates the needs of smaller college libraries."
