Baltimore City Community College to install Unicorn

Press Release: SIRSI Corporation [February 3, 1997]

Huntsville, AL (February 3, 1997) - Sirsi Corporation announced today the license of UNICORN to Baltimore City Community College located in Baltimore, Maryland.

Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) is a comprehensive State-sponsored community college serving primarily the residents and business community of Baltimore City. The College dates back to 1947 originating as Baltimore Junior College, an arm of the Baltimore City Public Schools. The two campuses along with additional instruction sites, a fine faculty, small classes, a comprehensive array of programs, full accreditation and continually upgraded facilities make BCCC a quality institution. With 6,000 credit and 8,000 non-credit enrollments, BCCC registers more students than any other public college or university in the City of Baltimore.

The college has selected SIRSI's InfoVIEW graphical client with Z39.50 for Windows. In addition to offering a consistent graphical interface to all staff and patron modules licensed by the library, InfoVIEW provides URL hyperlinks from within the UNICORN catalog to multi-media resources.

The Bard Library serves as the hub of information resources at the College. In addition to its 70,000 volumes and 500 periodical titles, the library also holds collections including allied health, social sciences, literature and special collections in African American studies and multicultural education. The two campus libraries are currently being networked and will use UNICORN to integrate all resources. Baltimore City Community College will install UNICORN on a DEC 3000/8000 RISC Server. The library offers a variety of media including books, periodicals, video tapes and compact discs that can be explored by using UNICORN for an electronic index and reference tool. The diversity of resources and addition of automation has allowed the Bard Library to be poised and ready for the future.
