Vancouver, Canada (September 27, 1999)- SydneyPLUS International has been introducing new capabilities and features into the Web OPAC module as part of its ongoing commitment to meeting the needs of special libraries. Now, the module expands its role as an invaluable information portal to an organization's other information resources.
The Web OPAC module is the primary place library users turn to find the information they need, 24-hours a day and from anywhere in the world. With its central role in today's special library, the Web OPAC module is a logical portal to relevant links, functions, and external resources within the organization. You can now quickly add links to other sites on your Intranet or the Internet or integrate hot links for commonly performed searches. This new feature greatly enhances the profile of the library and makes it easier for users to quickly find the information they need.
Other recent enhancements also improve access to information. Once you have submitted a query, a hit list of search results now includes shortcut icons that immediately take you to attached text files, copy information, or a list of attached files - such as text documents, video and audio clips, precedents, memoranda, table of contents, or other electronic files. This time-saving feature enables corporate resource centers to deliver on the promise of the virtual library.
Finally, recognizing that many corporations have embraced the benefits of promoting a coherent and integrated visual identity, we have added new features to make it easier than ever to customize the look and feel of the user interface. Tony Saadat, Executive Vice President, anticipates that many clients will want to modify background colors or import logos and graphics to create a look that reflects their corporate identity. "With these new changes," he says, "librarians now have full control over what their users see when they access their SydneyPLUS catalog over the Internet or corporate Intranet."
These enhancements exemplify our commitment to creating the most efficient and easily customizable library automation system for special libraries. We will continue to introduce new features into both the Web OPAC module and other SydneyPLUS modules as part of our value-added services we provide to our clients.
