St. Louis, Missouri, April 18, 1996 -- Data Research Associates, Inc. (NASDAQ: DRAI) announced today that earnings for its second quarter of fiscal 1996, which ended March 31, were a second-quarter record $1.1 million, or 31 cents per share. The earnings represent a 22 percent increase when compared with $934,000, or 25 cents per share, for the same quarter in fiscal 1995.
Revenues for the second quarter of fiscal 1996 increased 36 percent to a second-quarter record $12.2 million, compared with $9.0 million in the second quarter of fiscal 1995.
Earnings for the first six months of fiscal 1996 were $1.6 million, or 43 cents per share, compared with $1.1 million, or 30 cents per share, for the same period in fiscal 1995. Revenues for the first six months were $18.9 million, compared with $15.9 million for the first six months of fiscal 1995.
"Our earnings increase this quarter was caused by strong hardware sales, especially at two large new customer sites, and to a lesser extent by increases in our service revenues," said Mike Mellinger, President and CEO. "In addition, our shareholders have benefited from our ability to keep our operating expenses virtually flat for the first half of the year, even as we have accelerated our software and network development activities."
