Huntsville, Ala. (Dec. 3, 1999) Libraries on ten U.S. Air Force Bases have recently chosen Sirsi Corporation's Unicorn Library Management System to automate their base libraries. This integration tool was selected to provide an information resource that is powerful, yet easy to use for all members of the military family. The bases include Dover AFB, Del., Cannon AFB, N.M, Shaw AFB, S.C., Mountain Home AFB, Idaho, MacDill AFB, Fla., Minot AFB, N.D., Moody AFB, Ga., Hurlburt Field AFB, Fla., Altus AFB, Okla. and Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz.
Providing high quality libraries is an important part of the Air Force morale and welfare program to counter the separation of many military families from their extended family and friends. By offering a wide selection of books, periodicals, newspapers, and services, base libraries help maintain high morale within the family, allowing military members to focus on the mission of the Air Force. SIRSI's WebCat Online Public Access catalog will provide online access for the entire base community. Users can track developments at their previous duty station, access local events at their current base or obtain information about their next assignment. In addition, SIRSI's WorkFlows TM staff client makes everyday administration tasks simple for library staff.
