McHENRY, IL - April 15, 1999 - The Edmonton Public School District in Alberta, Canada, has selected Follett Software Company to automate its libraries with the company's award-winning Circulation Plus and Catalog Plus software for Windows. With 205 schools, Edmonton Public School District is the fourth largest school district in Canada.

Simplify Technology, Advance Offerings & Ensure Y2K Safety

Previously, Edmonton's schools had been using more than 10 different library automation systems. The district decided to select one system as its standard in order to simplify the district's technology, advance the libraries' offerings and eliminate any Year 2000 issues.

"As libraries move beyond their traditional services-truly beyond the walls - we need software that will allow for broader usage than in years past," said Jim Bell, Teacher-Librarian at Edmonton's M.E. LaZerte High School. "Follett's programs seemed to be the most technologically advanced and the best situated for the future."

High Quality, Ease of Use-Critical Deciding Factors

Follett Software's products will meet all the districts' written requirements. They were selected as the district standard following an extensive evaluation process that included a pilot program. Edmonton's Ross Sheppard High School tested the products at the high school level. Fran Mester, Teacher-Librarian at Ross Sheppard, commented, "Follett's Windows system is user-friendly for librarians, technicians, as well as students of all ages. The screens are very clear, providing just the right amount and kind of information. The transition to the new system was very easy and natural." Between 60-100 schools in the district are expected to switch to Follett Software in the next year.

"Being such a big district, it was important that the software Edmonton chose performed well in a large networked environment," explained Frank Coster, Follett Software's Director of International Sales. "Our software is designed for optimal performance in both large and small network environments. Edmonton experienced this firsthand through their testing." Follett Software's 32-bit capabilities, high performance cataloging module and easy MARC record creation all played key roles in Edmonton's final selection of Follett Software.

Simplified Collection Management, Powerful Online Searching

Follett Software's Circulation Plus software streamlines and automates manual tasks with point-and-click ease, saving library staff time and improving their efficiency. The program is seamlessly integrated with Catalog Plus, the company's cataloging management and online searching solution.
