McHENRY, IL - December 2, 1999 - The District School Board of Niagara in Ontario, Canada, has selected Follett Software Company™ to automate its school libraries with award-winning Circulation Plus, Catalog Plus and WebCollection Plus software for Windows, as well as the company's new Union Catalog Plus™ product. The 130-school district will be switching more than half its schools from other vendors' software and automating the remaining schools for the first time.
"We reviewed all the major vendors before choosing Follett Software Company," said Dennis Munn, Administrator of Educational Technologies at Niagara. "Follett met our criteria and our budget, while providing professional service, clear communication and the stability we desired." Niagara sought a vendor that would enable its libraries to share library resources and the electronic library records used in the online catalog, as well as to capitalize on Internet technology.
Simplified Library Management, Cataloging & Searching
Circulation Plus will bring Niagara's staff greater efficiency in managing the library with streamlined circulation procedures and a wide range of reporting capabilities. Catalog Plus will offer the students and teachers easier and more flexible options when searching for library resources. It will also simplify cataloging for the library staff with integrated help tools that make it possible to catalog with minimal MARC experience.
Niagara will also use Follett Software's Union Catalog Plus product to ease cataloging, and ultimately, make library resources more readily available. The software allows librarians to share library records among schools, making it easy to obtain library records for new materials and to enhance existing bibliographic records more quickly.
Internet Technology Expands Access Across the District
Niagara will implement Follett's WebCollection Plus software to expand the information resources available to students using Internet technology. With WebCollection Plus, the schools can put their library collections online, giving students, staff and the community the ability to search the collections over the Internet from home, the library and classrooms whenever they choose. Patrons will be able to search all of the district's library collections in a single search and place holds on materials in other school libraries right from the Internet.
On-Site Expertise & Training Complete the Project
Niagara purchased Follett Software's implementation service and training to ensure optimal use of the new system. The company's Field Services team, a group of technical experts, will ensure the district is up and running in the most efficient manner. They will send a technical specialist to Niagara to configure the Follett Software products and to assist with the configuration of file servers and workstations. And Follett's training will give Niagara staff a head start with the new software, highlighting important features and tips.
Niagara will implement the new Follett system in phases. They plan to complete the first phase, converting all libraries using non-Follett software to Follett's products, in early 2000. Follett will convert the electronic bibliographic data at these sites as well.
