Ameritech offers remote patron authentication

Library Systems Newsletter [October 1999]

Ameritech has developed remote patron authentication software for its Dynix, Horizon, and NOTIS systems. The software authenticates directly against the automated library system's patron file, verifying that the patron meets library-defined criteria. Based on information contained in the patron's record, the software qualifies the patron, determines which online resources the patron is eligible to access, displays a list of approved resources, and when the choice has been made, passes on the approved credentials to the online database provider. The following online database providers are supported: Ebsco, Novelist, OVID, SIRS, UMI ProQuest, and UnCover. Others will be added as agreements are concluded.
