Compaq offers low-cost Unix server

Library Systems Newsletter [September 1999]

Compaq, looking to compete with Intel's servers, has introduced a new single-processor Alpha Server costing only $3,500. The DS10 server features a 466-MHX Alpha Processor and will support UNIX, Linux, Windows NT, and Open VMS. Memory begins at 128 MB and 29 GB of internal disk storage is included. To provide scalability, the server comes with four PCI slots. It may prove to be ideal for libraries requiring a server which can support up to 32 concurrent users.
