Ameritech Library Services continues its move beyond the sale of automated library systems. It added firewall sales and network management products and services last year; it has just added theft detection systems. The vendor has become an "authorized partner" of Check Point, the leader in RF-based (radio frequency-based) systems. The status will not only make it possible for Ameritech to sell Check Point's theft detection systems, but will give it access to beta code during Check Point's product development cycle so that it can ensure compatibility with its library automation software.
[ALS has also passed certification tests for compliance with the 3M Standard Interchange Protocol (SIP) 2.0, thus guaranteeing that its Dynix and Horizon systems are fully compatible with that vendor's electromagnetic theft detection systems.]
ALS has also signed an agreement to license Linguistic Technology Corporation's English Wizard, a product which will provide natural language data access to the Horizon system. English Wizard translates questions asked in plain English into the structured query language programming syntax that is required to access a library's database.
Finally, ALS has launched a new Web store that enables customers to place online orders for a variety of products, including Dell workstations and other remote peripherals, software, and supplies.
