Filtering out unwanted ads and cookies

Library Systems Newsletter [January 1999]

Internet Mute has released a utility which works with a browser to filter out Internet advertising. The software, called InterMute, works by looking at the characteristics of the separate files that make up a page and not downloading ones that meet the characteristics of an ad. It can also be used to block out "cookie" files that record Web preferences, and background music. The product is priced at $19.95.

Other products which are limited to removing cookies include Cache & Cookie Washer ($14.95 when downloaded from the company's Web site) and Ayecor Software s Cookie Cutter PC ($14.95 when downloaded from the company's Web site).
