Netscape releases Communicator 4.5

Library Systems Newsletter [December 1998]

The latest release of Netscape's browser is now available for free downloading from the Netscape NetCenter portal site or from most ISPs. The new release, which is called Netscape Communicator 4.5, features a number of enhancements, especially in the area of e-mail.

Libraries now using Netscape Navigator should be careful in downloading the new browser because the two differ a great deal. Netscape Communicator allows one to choose which components are to be installed. If one downloads Communicator from Netscape's site, there may be difficulty in using e-mail because e-mail is now an additional component which has to be downloaded separately. (Some ISPs do have the complete package, including e-mail, on their sites for downloading by their customers.)
