CD-ROM speed increased again

Library Systems Newsletter [December 1998]

Once more, the maximum CD-ROM read-speed limit has been increased; this time to 6.84 MB/sec--40 times the 150 KB/sec speed of the first CD-ROM readers. The first manufacturer to offer the new 40x drives is Memorex. Pricing on the Model CD-402E is very aggressive: $119.99. Prices on 24x drives are like-ly to drop below $100 as a result.
