Baker & Taylor has begun signing customers for its The Title Source II, a database of more than 1.9 million U.S. forthcoming, in-print, and out-of-print book titles. The database includes the title, author, ISBN, price, publisher, publication date, and other standard bibliographic data. There are also over 45,000 tables of contents and 500,000 annotations. The database also includes full-text, keyword-searchable reviews and over 120,000 book jacket images. Features of the new system include in-stock status at Baker & Taylor and online ordering and confirmation. Records can be downloaded to create purchase orders or to create database records in MARC format for a local automated library system.
Access to the new database is via the Web using a 486 or Pentium PC with a minimum of 28 Kbps modem, a dedicated modem line, and Web browser (version 3.0 or higher). (For best results a 56 Kbps modem is recommended.) The annual license fee is $1,750 per year for a single user ID, and $250 per year for each additional concurrent user.
