The merger of Data Trek and IME has resulted in a new company named Electronic Online Systems International or EOS International (EOSi). The former IME "T" series of systems will be targeted toward mid-sized and larger libraries, and the former Data Trek Manager, Professional, and GLAS series will be targeted toward smaller libraries.
The new company will be introducing the "Q" series in late 1996. The Q series will be a client/server product designed for mid-size and larger libraries. The initial release of the Q series will include modules for cataloging, circulation, online patron access catalog, and Powersearch. Modules for acquisitions, serials, and Databridge will follow soon after.
Additional features will include e-mail capabilities for system generated correspondence, hierarchical user rights/restrictions, embedded full-MARC rules, validation, and authority control, support of simple and complex cross references, image and other media linking and display, and intelligent processing and unattended mode.
The Q series will adhere to MARC standards including format integration, USMARC, UNIMARC, and international variations; multiple character sets; and X12/EDIFACT electronic data interchange. In addition, the Q series supports communications standards such as TCP/IP for interconnectivity with the Internet and other networks. The Q series will use the open Oracle DBMS and BRS/Dataware indexing and searching tools and will feature multi-platform support for both the client and the server. Client platforms will include Windows NT, Windows95, Windows for Workgroups, and Windows 3.1, while server platforms will include UNIX and Windows NT. Minimum hardware requirements for the Q series client include a minimum 486/66 MHz processor with 8 MB of RAM and for the server, a Pentium/90 MHz processor with 64 MB of RAM.
Corporate headquarters will be in Carlsbad, Calif.; European headquarters in London; and Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore.
