100 mbps Ethernet challenging FDDI

Library Systems Newsletter [January 1993]

For the last few years the literature of data communications has been touting FDDI (Fiber Distributed Data Interface) as the technology of the future for large LANs. Now, with the appearance of 100 Mbps Ethernet, the story is different. At $250 per port, 100 Mbps Ethernet is one-fourth the cost of FDDI.

Pinong the companies offering 100 Mbps Ethernet adapters, hubs, and other LAN components are Grand Junction Networks, 3 Coin Corporation, LAN Media Corporation, and Synoptics Communications.
