Auto-Graphics completes government documents data base upgrade

Library Systems Newsletter [July 1992]

Auto-Graphics has upgraded its Government Documents Catalog Service (GDCS) data base, an enhanced CD-ROM version of the Monthly Catalog of U.S. Government Publications. The upgrade combines unique information from otherwise duplicated records and deletes redundant data. The process eliminated a significant amount of unnecessary material making possible the continued offering of the GDCS data base on a convenient single CD-ROM disc. There are 281,000 unique records in the data base.

Previous enhancements to the data base included manual entry of all corrections in the printed Monthly Catalog from 1976; re-tagging of data originally in notes fields to their proper MARC field; expanded indexing including contents notes; regular authority control, processing for names, uniform titles, series, and subject; and, complete revision of name and subject cross-references.

Auto-Graphics offers monthly, bimonthly, and quarterly GDCS subscription options at $650, $950, and $1,600 per year. The prices include the data, the cover guide, software license and maintenance, and the shipping costs.
