The ADONIS CD-ROM product drew crowds at SLA this past month. The technical problems encountered at the beginning of 1992 appear to have been overcome, and shipments are now being made weekly. Each week's CD-ROM includes articles from 420 journals in biomedical and related fields.
Installed on a PC with MS-DOS version 3.30 or higher, configured with a hard drive of 200 MB and CD-ROM drive, and a LaserJet II or equivalent printer, the software supports retrieval by author, title, journal name or publication date of 10,000 pages per CD-ROM. There are now 61 discs. The basic configuration provided for relatively slow print speed. However, when configured on a 486-based PC with a LaserJet III si printer, the print speed is increased to 10-12 pages per minute.
The 1992 calendar year subscription price is $12,000. The price includes installation and a half day training seminar.
There are plans to broaden the coverage of ADONIS to physics and chemistry.
