Data Trek has released GoPAC (Graphical Online Public Access Catalog), an OPAC that combines Microsoft Windows graphical user interface and Data Trek's latest application software. GoPAC is an Online Public Access Catalog designed for a range of skill levels. Novice users may browse through author, title, or subject indexes, scroll through displayed records, and select their desired topic without entering search keys. For the more experienced user, GoPAC offers index searching, keyword searching, complete Boolean capabilities, truncated searches, and Hypersearch all at the click of a mouse. GoPAC also offers full MARC compatibility and rapid sorting.
Data Trek developed GoPAC to empower the users and to decrease their dependence on the librarian for routine questions on OPAC use. GoPAC uses screens and graphical displays to clarify instructions. Only a click of a button is needed in order to start a search. There is little to no key-boarding involved and a "Start Over" button is located on every screen. In April, Data Trek's GoPAC met Microsoft's criteria to become an approved Microsoft Windows compatible product.
GoPAC was tested, and Data Trek earned the right to use the Microsoft Windows logo. GoPAC runs on an MS/DOS platform. It is compatible with Data Trek's Professional Series and Manager Series products.
