CLSI has announced that its new UNIX-based acquisitions module will be available for general release in the fourth quarter of 1992. Serials Control will follow in the first quarter of 1993. The company also is completing an information and referral module. The modules will be fully integrated with the circulation and online patron access catalog modules now in general release.
CLSI reached an out-of-court settlement with Seagate, supplier of disk drives which did not achieve the expected mean-time-between-failure, the average number of hours a device is predicted to operate before a failure. The settlement will make it possible for CLSI to replace, rather than repair, the disk drives which fail. The replacement program already appears to be having an effect; calls to the trouble desk have dropped by approximately 50 percent in the past few months.
