Gaylord Information Systems is offering demonstration and tutorial disks for its new CD-ROM cataloging support system. SuperCAT, which was announced in LSN's August 1988 issue, consists of two CD-ROM disks containing the ISO MARC English data base, including monographs, serials, music, and films. An optional third disk holds all LC foreign-language records in all formats. Searches are supported by LCCN, ISBN, or ISSN; author; and title. Searches may be limited by date, and/or format of material. Records can be compared on one split screen for similarities. Frequent command sequences have been consolidated into a few super commands.
The cost of a SuperCAT software license is $1,500 for the first workstation, and $250 for each additional workstation. The subscription to LC-MARC English is $1,400 for the monthly service ($2,400 for the quarterly). The LC-MARC Foreign is $500 for quarterly service. There is a $270 annual maintenance charge on the license, plus $45 for each additional workstation. Gaylord also sells all of the needed hardware and supplies.
The demonstration and tutorial disks require an IBM PC clone using DOS 2.1 or higher. A minimum of 512k RAM is required. The disks will run properly only from drive "A."
