As of the end of 1987, 34,000 CD-ROM drives had been shipped, but this pace has picked up dramatically. Shipments in the first half of 1988 reached 7,500 per month according to industry sources.
The current sales leader is Hitachi, followed by Laser Magnetic Storage International, Sony, and Denon.
