Data Research Associates has passed the Los Angeles County Library's benchmark, paving the way for the negotiation of a contract for a 500 terminal system. The system will support a data base of more than 800,000 titles, 8.3 million items, 1.2 million registered borrowers, and an annual circulation of well over 12 million. The benchmark test required that the system--which will consist of three clustered DEC VAX 8700 series processors--be able to handle up to 93,000 transactions an hour. Transactions were defined as a patron registration, charge, discharge, OPAC inquiry, etc.
