Beyond spell checking

Library Systems Newsletter [August 1987]

Personal computer software packages have gone beyond spell checking to the checking of errors in grammar, usage, punctuation, and style. RightWriter Ver-sion 2.1, compatible with WordPerfect, Multimate and 20 other word processing packages, uses over 3,000 rules and a 45,000 word vocabulary to make recommendations. Jargon, slang, cliches, and redundant phrases are all "questioned" by the software.
