Germantown. MD. March 3, 1998 - In April, Gordon M. Conable will Join Library Systems & Services (LSSI) as Vice President for West Coast Operations with primary, responsibility for the company's landmark Riverside County Library System project.
Under the direction of the Riverside County Board of Supervisors, LSSI operates thc county's 25 branch library system ---- including bookmobile service and reading rooms -- that serves over a million people. According to LSSI's Chief Operating Officer, Frank A. Pezzanite, "LSSI is committed to increasing staff at the libraries, earmarking more dollars for collection development and having Riverside County's libraries open more hours. Since it's no secret that there aren't a lot of dollars available, everything we do must be guided by the absolute best decision-making. That's why we're so proud to have Gordon Conable join us."

During his tenure, two new branches were opened for a total of 15 in the system, and major upgrades were completed, as well as design work on a variety of' improvement projects.
Conable has earned national recognition for his award-wining accomplishments. He was the first librarian to be honored as Michigan Public Servant of the Year for his financial management and his advocacy of patron rights. In addition, he was recently honored by the Rockefeller Foundation and four other foundations at a special ceremony.
A Unique Opportunity
"With LSSI, I have a chance to contribute to the vital role public libraries play in preserving this country's freedom." says Conable. "Riverside County has a larger population than 13 states. This is a unique opportunity to develop a strong partnership between local government and the private sector to improve free public library services at each of Riverside's branches. I'm looking forward to teamwork not only, with an excellent library staff, but with local officials, community leaders, library users, and Friends groups to bring, positive change to the library."
