Computer prices on-line

Library Systems Newsletter [October 1981]

For those who want to select and purchase their own computer hardware and software, there is an on-line data base with complete descriptions and prices of over 30,000 products. For an hourly rate of $100 to $135, depending on the committed level of use, one may search the data base by vendor, product category, model number, or price range. The search retrieves a description which includes capabilities, interfacing potential, purchase price, maintenance fees and a number of other facts. The product descriptions can be searched by the free-text method, i.e., by any word in the text. The data base is designed to be used in planning and in comparison of options. Prospective users of the data base must make arrangements with Auerbach Publishers, the producers of the data base, rather than with BPS, Inc., the on-line search service [Contact Auerbach Publishers, 121 North Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19107].
