The MARC and REMARC files will soon be loaded into the Dialog system so that organizations not affiliated with a bibliographic utility can verify bibliographic information or obtain machine-readable records for the creation of in-house data bases by searching the Dialog system online Editing of the records would have to be done on the library's own system. The MARC file will consist of more than 1 million records for titles cataloged by LC since 1968. The REMARC file will eventually consist of more than 5 million records of titles cataloged before 1968. The present production schedule set by Carrollton Press, the producer of REMARC, is 2 million records per year. The first MARC and REMARC files will be available early in 1982. Prices have not yet been announced, but allegedly will be competitive with those set by the bibliographic utilities.
