DIALOG becomes separate firm

Library Systems Newsletter [August 1981]

The recent decision by Lockheed to spin off DIALOG as a separate subsidiary known as Dialogue Information Services Inc. "should not have any appreciable effect on the pricing of the service" according to Roger Summit, President of the new subsidiary. The motivation for the change was to give management of the service greater control over product development and equipment procurement. As a division of a much larger company the management of DIALOG had to go through several levels of approvals.

The announcement is further evidence of the maturation of the remote data base brokerage industry. That is to be expected now that the number of users of BRS, DIALOG, and ORBIT is well over 10,000.
