CARLweb to Provide Polish & Russian Interfaces: Multilingual versions of Web PAC continue to grow

@Carl: The CARL Corporation Newsletter [1999]

CARL is pleased to announce the upcoming release of Polish and Russian versions of CARLweb. These translations join an expanding suite of multilingual options for CARLweb, which will include interfaces for Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Tamil, and Malay.

CARLweb is Unicode-based, so it can provide multilingual support for any language, including those with non-Roman characters, such as Russian and Chinese. The multilingual versions of CARLweb can present all elements of a screen display in the language of choice, from navigational buttons and menus to search results to individual patron information. Users can also switch back and forth easily between the English and supported language displays without losing the context of searches.

The Polish version is being developed with the help of Chicago Public Library, which also has Korean, Spanish, and Chinese collections.

Look for news of the release of these and other languages in the coming months.
