Perugia (Italy), July 5, 1999. Atlantis Srl, exclusive ALEPH distributor in Italy, announced today that Università degli Studi di Perugia (University of Perugia) has signed a contract for the installation of the latest version of ALEPH500 to replace DOBIS LIBIS as its library automation system.
The University of Perugia, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Italy was, founded by Pope Clement V in 1308. During the 18th and 19th centuries, it was reorganized along Napoleon Bonapartes educational plans. It has 11 faculties, with a staff of 70 librarians, a student body of 35,000 and a collection of over 400,000 volumes. The ALEPH 500 system, to be installed on an IBM RS/6000 server, will replace the DOBIS-LIBIS system, the second Italian DOBIS-LIBIS user, after ENEA, to do so.
The Centro Servizi Bibliotecari (University Library Service Center) is formed by nine area libraries, with a collection of over 400,000 volumes and a staff of 70 librarians serving a population of 35,000 students.

Atlantis Srl will handle the installation of the ALEPH500 system, migration, training and project management along with first line support.
Professor Barberini, head of the University Services, announced the decision to make ALEPH500 the new software for the automation of every library in the university system.
This latest and most prestigious award represents the 50th ALEPH installation in Italy, Perugia being the 20th university to select ALEPH as its library automation system.
