Paris, 26 July 1999. Datapoint S.A., Ex Libris' exclusive French distributor, has received an order from the Paris V university to replace its current mix of library automation systems with the latest version of ALEPH 500.
The University of Paris V, also known as the René Descartes University, is a multidisciplinary institution and the premier medical faculty in the Paris area. It comprises 11 libraries located on 10 separate sites. They currently offer about 180,000 documents and over 2,000 periodicals. They serve a student body of over 30,000.
Until now, these libraries were using OCLC for cataloging, MOBIPOP for loans and LIBER-MEDIA as OPAC. With ALEPH 500, slated to be operational by mid-November 1999, the Paris V libraries will be able to offer students and faculty a much improved and modernized service, including web access and Z39.50 gateway. Initially, ALEPH will be available on 53 concurrent staff stations and 32 concurrent OPAC stations.
This order, the 15th for ALEPH in France, follows on the heels of similar orders for the Paris III, X and XII universities. For all of these, Datapoint provides full implementation services and ongoing technical support.
This series of awards consolidates Datapoint's and ALEPH's leading position in the French academic libraries sector. Watch these pages for imminent further success stories in this segment.
