May 02, 2025. McAllen Public Library (MPL) has made the choice to return to the Library.Solution integrated library system provided by The Library Corporation (TLC) after a short period with Insignia. Having previously been a TLC customer for over 15 years, McAllen migrated, as part of a shared library system, but then chose an independent path and rejoined the TLC family. Due to the quick turnaround, TLC was able to effortlessly reinstate years' worth of past Library.Solution data for MPL.
The decision to transition from TLC was a carefully considered one for McAllen Public Library. However, shortly after initiating the migration process, staff began to encounter a range of operational challenges. The library's system administrators committed substantial additional time to address configuration issues and to identify and resolve bugs within the new system. During this period, support from the new vendor was limited, which added to the complexity of the transition. Additionally, some members of the McAllen community experienced difficulties in accessing titles and resources as the system adjustment progressed.
With TLC's industry-leading implementation team focused on deliberately crafting a comprehensive onboarding plan with direct guidance from all new and returning customers, migrating MPL back to Library.Solution has been a successful, smooth transition. Having worked previously with the TLC customer service team, library staff are confident that concerns, issues, and immediate needs will be addressed quickly through TLC's US-based 24/7/365 support. Patrons can also look forward to returning to the elegant, easy-to-navigate system to effortlessly find materials.
"Ensuring that our patrons, visitors, and staff feel supported and have seamless access to our resources has always been a top priority," stated Kate Horan, Library Director at McAllen Public Library. "We are delighted to return to TLC, and I am confident that our users will appreciate the reliability and familiarity of the catalog. I extend my sincere gratitude to the entire TLC team for their exceptional customer service and support throughout this transition. We feel truly valued as clients and look forward to a long and successful partnership."
"While it is never easy to see a library system navigate structural changes, we are honored that McAllen Public Library has chosen to return independently," shared Annette Murphy, CEO and co-founder of The Library Corporation. "Their decision to choose TLC reflects the trust we have worked hard to earn for all of our customers, and we look forward to supporting them — and any libraries that follow in McAllen's footsteps — in the next chapter of their journey."
Migration back to Library.Solution began in March 2025 and is scheduled to go live in May 2025, before their popular summer reading events.
