31 October 2019. Chesapeake Public Library in Chesapeake, Virginia, has signed on to implement OCLC Wise, the first community engagement system for U.S. public libraries.
CPL, the first Wise library in Virginia, is determined to find new ways to educate and enrich its community. Director Amanda Jackson has made many positive changes since joining the library just over a year ago, and is encouraged about the opportunities available with Wise. "We are thrilled to partner with Wise. For the CPL, this represents a shift from the old model of ILS systems to an entirely new school of thought for all of our operations. We are moving from ‘Let us show you what we can do for you' to ‘What do you want us to do for you?' It's saying ‘yes' to our community and letting them drive our future."
CPL strives to be a dynamic community champion with everything they do. "CPL is actively exploring how to better reach and inspire its community, like its recent partnership with local schools to provide electronic library cards for more than 40,000 students," said Mary Sauer-Games, OCLC Vice President, Global Product Management. "This community-focused mindset fits perfectly with how we envision Wise supporting public libraries to better understand and support their unique communities."
