Berkeley Public Library selects TLC's CARL as their next ILS

Press Release: The Library Corporation [January 24, 2019]

The Library Corporation (January 23, 2019) – TLC is pleased to announce that Berkeley Public Library (BPL) in California chose CARL.X as their next integrated library system, taking advantage of the fully hosted service model that TLC offers its customers.

Since 1991, BPL was a customer of Innovative Interfaces Inc., but after conducting a diligent search of available options in the industry, they chose to switch to TLC's CARL.X platform. As part of BPL's research into the marketplace, they heard recommendations from current CARL.X customers about TLC's sterling reputation for unmatched customer service, and also explored the functionality of CARL.Connect.

"A team of BPL staff recommended moving to CARL.X after a thorough review of the ILS marketplace," Elliot Warren, the acting director of library services for BPL, said. "We are especially pleased to be working with an organization with a strong track record of high quality customer service and a commitment to a patron-centered design that makes using the library easy."

Offered as part of the core CARL.X ILS software, the functionality of the CARL.Connect Discovery public catalog interface stood out as a responsive and intuitive experience that will enable BPL's patrons to selfsufficiently discover and access library resources. Staff members for BPL also sought to unlock the potential of TLC's mobile-first CARL.Connect Staff product and its flexible, intuitive features designed to engage with users and collections.

"Berkeley Public Library has recently made some significant changes to circulation practices to be able to remove barriers that get in the way of library use for all, including going fine free and implementing automatic renewals," Warren said. "We feel that TLC is well prepared to help BPL identify and remove barriers into the future and to help create a great user experience."

TLC's dedicated implementation team has begun working on the project details for BPL's migration to CARL.X, and expects to have the system live in July.
