MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. — Consortium Book Sales & Distribution, one of Ingram Content Groups distribution brands, announces eight new publishers for the Spring 2019 season: Beehive Books, Braun Publishing, Floating World Comics, Green Card Voices, Inhabit Media, Lookout Books, Nightboat Books, and Tiny Owl Publishing. All presses begin distribution with Consortium on January 1, 2019.

Beehive Books is a new, Philadelphia-based, boutique press committed to creating beautifully made editions of distinctive literary and pictorial works with singular design sensibilities, unmatched production values, and an emphasis on comics and graphic art. Forthcoming titles include The Temple of Silence: Forgotten Works & Worlds of Herbert Crowley by Justin Duerr and a gorgeous version of H.G. Wells' The Island of Dr. Moreau, illustrated by Bill Sienkiewicz with an introduction by Guillermo Del Toro.
Braun Publishing is an independently owned publishing house from Switzerland that publishes approximately forty new titles annually under three renowned bibliophile brands: Braun, Niggli, and Benteli. Braun specializes in books on architecture, interior design, and urban development. Niggli's books deal with works that support and inspire readers in their professional and academic lives in the areas of design, architecture, and especially typography. Benteli has made its eminent name by publishing works by artists such as Henri Matisse, Wassily Kandinsky, Alberto Giacometti, and Niki de Saint Phalle.
Floating World Comics is an independent publisher of international, avant-garde, and genre comics and graphic novels. Its publications are an extension of its bookstore in Portland, Oregon, which has been operating at the heart of contemporary comics for over twelve years. With a focus on a unique, curated selection of the most outstanding comics from around the world, Floating World brings new voices to the forefront. Forthcoming books include Dark Garbage by Jon-Michael Frank and The Secret Voice by Zack Soto, the first in a three volume series.
Founded in 2013, Green Card Voices is a Minneapolis-based nonprofit organization that documents and shares the first-person narratives of immigrants and refugees in an effort to put a human face on migration. Green Card Voices was born from the idea that the broad narrative of current immigrants should be communicated in a way true to each immigrant's story. It gives voice to the diverse life experiences of modern-day immigrants from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and other parts around the globe. Similar books from Fargo, St. Paul, and Atlanta soon followed to high critical acclaim. Books forthcoming in the series will feature the stories of students from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Knoxville, Tennessee, and other cities.
Inhabit Media is the first Inuit-owned, independent publishing company in the Canadian Arctic. It aims to promote and preserve the stories, knowledge, and talent of the Arctic, while also supporting research in Inuit mythology and the traditional Inuit knowledge of Nunavummiut (residents of Nunavut, Canada's northernmost territory). Many of the stories that Inhabit publishes have never been written down before, having existed for centuries as tales passed orally from generation to generation. While many of these stories are ancient, Inhabit works closely with elders, contemporary Inuit writers, and illustrators the world over to present folktales and traditional stories in a format that will resonate with modern audiences. Key forthcoming titles include Una Huna: What Is This? by Susan Aglukark and illustrated by Danny Christopher and Amanda Sandlad; and The Orphan and the Polar Bear by Sakiasi Qaunaq and illustrated by Eva Widermann.
Lookout Books was founded in 2009 by publisher Emily Louise Smith and editor emeritus Ben George as the literary book imprint of the Department of Creative Writing at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Lookout seeks out emerging and historically underrepresented voices, as well as overlooked gems by established writers. Lookout's debut book, Binocular Vision: New & Selected Stories by Edith Pearlman, was reviewed on the cover of the New York Times Book Review, was a finalist for the National Book Award, and won the National Book Critics Circle Award. More recently, Clare Beams's debut story collection, We Show What We Have Learned, was named a finalist for the PEN/Bingham Prize, Young Lions Fiction Award, and Shirley Jackson Awards.
Nightboat Books, based in Brooklyn, New York, seeks to develop audiences for writers whose work resists convention and transcends boundaries, by publishing books rich with poignancy, intelligence, and risk. The press publishes poetry and prose, with a special focus on innovative and inter-genre writing, in quality paperback editions. Since its first publication in 2005, Nightboat has published more than 100 books. The Black Condition ft. Narcissus by jayy dodd is forthcoming in the spring.
At the heart of Tiny Owl Publishing is the message. By publishing beautifully illustrated, deeply philosophical books, it brings stories of hope and peace in a fractured world and builds bridges between cultures. Since 2015, Tiny Owl has published picture books that celebrate the rich literary heritage of Persian culture from Rumi to contemporary. At present, there is an urgent need for books which promote greater cultural awareness, understanding, and tolerance and which offer a more positive image and understanding of the Middle East than is usually experienced through the media. Tiny Owl aims to address this in a concrete way by producing books that offer children a kaleidoscope of stories in which to view themselves and others. Its new series "One Story, Many Voices" pairs authors and illustrators from different countries to explore cultural variants of well-known tales from around the world. The first book in the series, Cinderella of the Nile by Beverley Naidoo and illustrated by Marjan Vafaeian, will be published next year.
