Building upon innovations introduced with Library.Solution v5.0, which included the award winning LS2 Cataloging, TLC continues its push to remove the complexities and inefficiencies library staff face daily by legacy ILS systems. With the release of Library.Solution v5.3.1, libraries can utilize all new features, such as Item Spaces, the reinvented Fast Add Cataloging, and improved item visibility and access rules for multi-branch libraries, school districts and library consortia.
The initial release of LS2 Cataloging introduced the concept of Workspaces, a virtual representation of the cataloger's physical work area. Library.Solution v5.3.1 evolves Workspaces into two separate areas: the Title Space, and the new Item Space. Item Spaces provide additional flexibility while working with items in bulk and simplifies operations like weeding and deleting—or even reprinting replacement labels.
For Library.Solution customers that are familiar with ‘On the Fly' (OTF) Cataloging, the new Fast Adds workflow makes OTF Cataloging more efficient than ever.
All customers will still be able to easily add ILL items or items intended to be deleted upon check in. However, for libraries that have subscribed for ITS.MARC and use Fast Add as a type of permanent cataloging, if no matching record is found in their local database, then Library.Solution will automatically search for it in our repository of over 30 million records! Additionally, if records added were unable to be matched to a record, Library.Solution will continually search for a better record as part of its many automated data enrichment processes.
Users in multi-branch systems and consortia no longer need to be concerned about editing records belonging to other members or locations. With the improvements to location limiting solutions in Library.Solution v5.3.1, system administrators can adjust default locations for system users and manage which location those users have access to.
These features, and more, will be available to all new Library.Solution customers at release. And, as always, Library.Solution v5.3.1 is available as a free upgrade for current customers.
