BiblioCommons announces the next generation of its native apps for libraries: BiblioApps V2.0

Press Release: BiblioCommons [June 22, 2018]

Toronto, ON -- BiblioCommons is proud to announce the development of the next generation of its native apps for public libraries: BiblioApps. The first generation of BiblioApps (then known as BiblioMobile), was released in 2011 and reproduced desktop catalog functionality in a mobile-friendly format. Now that the BiblioCommons BiblioCore catalog is responsive and works equally well across all devices' browsers, the next generation of BiblioApps will extend what is offered in the browser application and build on the unique affordances of mobile devices and the native functionality of their operating systems.

BiblioCommons is designing BiblioApps V2.0 to help libraries provide the omnichannel experiences that patrons have come to expect elsewhere, uniting their in-person experiences at library branches and their device-mediated digital experiences. The apps will be context-aware, person-aware and device-aware, and will use this to personalize the user's experience.

The initial beta version of BiblioApps V2.0 will include context awareness that will recognize where users are in their customer journey, as well as when users are in a library branch to give them access to in-branch features. These context-aware features will include "Plan Your Visit" functionality telling patrons with an upcoming library interaction (such as picking up a hold) about library programming and events that they can participate in during their visit. Other new functionality will include a FRBR-style grouped catalog search using native OS functionality. Additional new features are planned for future releases of the new apps.

Beth Jefferson, BiblioCommons' Co-Founder and CEO, says: "With this new version of BiblioApps, we want to help libraries bring their patrons' digital and in-person experiences together, and to make both of those experiences richer in new ways."

BiblioCommons staff will be providing a preview of the new BiblioApps this weekend at the American Library Association conference in New Orleans. Those interested in learning more are encouraged to visit the BiblioCommons booth, #3815 in the exhibit hall, or
