Digital bookmobile visits two KCLS libraries as part of its national tour

Press Release: Overdrive [May 15, 2018]

ISSAQUAH, WA May 15, 2018 As the number one digital-circulating library in the country, King County Library System (KCLS) patrons are considered to be savvy digital readers. To support their avid use of the KCLS digital collection, and to encourage more digital readership among interested KCLS library users, OverDrive, a digital content provider, will send its digital bookmobile to visit two KCLS libraries.

"King County Library System is always looking for opportunities to enhance services and increase program offerings our cardholders want and need," said Mary Comstock, KCLS' Librarian Services Manager for the Northeast region of libraries. "The OverDrive Digital Bookmobile staff will share new tips with our patrons to add to their digital reading experience with the library's OverDrive collection of more than 4.7 million digital eBooks and audiobooks."

KCLS cardholders will have the opportunity to visit the Digital Bookmobile at KCLS' Redmond and Covington Libraries this month. The bookmobile is touring nationwide to promote the borrowing of eBooks, audio books and streaming video services. KCLS is the only public library system it will visit in Washington State since its last tour to the Pacific Northwest nearly five years ago.

"As our top, circulating library in 2017, our team is eager to meet some of the King County Library System patrons who checked out nearly 4 million digital titles last year," said Renee Bixler, OverDrive's Director of Marketing Services. "The King County Library System staff is known for their innovative and influential promotional strategies for the benefit of their library cardholders, and hosting the Digital Bookmobile is a great example of that."

The new, high-tech digital bookmobile will visit King County Library System's Redmond Library at 15990 NE 85th Street, Redmond, WA 98052 on Saturday, May 19, 11am-3pm, and at its Covington Library at27100 164th Avenue SE, Covington 98042 on Tuesday, May 22, 2-6pm.

The traveling exhibit contains several interactive learning stations for patrons to explore during their visit. Both digital bookmobile events are free to attend. King County residents may sign up for free KCLS library cards on-site to borrow items from its digital collection.

"We are thrilled the OverDrive Digital Bookmobile selected to visit KCLS libraries, including Redmond, where one of the pioneering, multi-national technology companies is headquartered," said Comstock. "The KCLS Redmond Library serves patrons of all ages with various levels of digital expertise, from those who are new to digital reading to more technophile readers, all of whom will enjoy a visit to the digital bookmobile."
