Dissertations from Philippines University available globally

Press Release: ProQuest [February 2, 2018]

PHILIPPINES, February 2, 2018 – For the first time, dissertations from the Philippines are now available to researchers around the world through the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global database (PQDT), the largest database of graduate research collected from the world's greatest universities.

As a member of the PQDT publishing program, Philippines Women's University will contribute its graduate students' dissertations and theses to the PQDT database. They'll be visible to hundreds of thousands of PQDT users and broadly discoverable through citations in many major subject indexes.

"We're honored to be the first university in the Philippines to publish our students' work on PQDT," said Dr. Ahmed Meandahawi, Director, Graduate Studies. "Philippines Women's University now has a closer tie with the scholarly research community. This partnership gives global visibility to our students – and to the important graduate work coming from Southeast Asia."

The University will mark its centennial in 2019. Spearheaded by its dynamic president, Dr. Francisco B. Benitez and doubly hardworking Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Felina C. Young, the importance of research is stressed among faculty and students. "Scholarly research is at the heart of graduate work. It is the most vital competency that must be developed by all graduate students," Dr. Young emphasized.

Originally created in 1939, PQDT archives and improves the discovery of graduate works from research universities around the world. Many dissertations in PQDT include multimedia components and accompanying datasets so researchers can access valuable content that goes far beyond text.

With 4.5 million dissertations and theses – 2.2 million in full text – PQDT is used by more than 3,000 universities, and today, Philippines Women's University joins that list.

"The Philippines delivers key research to the world's scholarly community," said Austin McLean, Director of Product Management. "As the audience for PQDT continues to expand, this partnership with Philippines Women's University will benefit researchers both in Southeast Asia and around the world."
