Paris, France—September 19, 2017. Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the Bibliothèque Interuniversitaire de Montpellier (BIU, or Interuniversity Library of Montpellier) has chosen the Ex Libris Alma library services platform and the Primo discovery and delivery solution to optimize library management and discovery. Alma and Primo will replace the Aleph integrated library system.
The BIU will be leveraging the tight integration between Alma and Primo to facilitate the management of the library's growing catalog of electronic resources. The resulting streamlined workflows and enhanced discoverability will benefit patrons and librarians from the Université Paul Valéry Montpellier 3 and the Université de Montpellier as well as users from the Université de Nîmes, the École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Montpellier, and the Institut Protestant de Théologie (Faculté de Montpellier), whose library systems are managed by the BIU.
"Among the BIU's strategic aims," explained BIU Director Matthieu Desachy, "are the development of digital and electronic services and involvement in national projects—for example, the Shared Library Management System project, run by the Agence Bibliographique de l'enseignement supérieur (ABES, or Bibliographic Agency of Higher Education), in which the BIU is a pilot site. Under this framework agreement, we have chosen Alma and Primo in light of the increasing importance of electronic resources to our users and the growing proportion of our budget that such resources consume. Together, these issues mandate that we manage our resources effectively and efficiently and make them easily available to the teaching staff, researchers and students."
Ofer Mosseri, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris EMEA, commented, "I am delighted that the Interuniversity Library of Montpellier has chosen Ex Libris Alma and Primo to improve library services. This decision reflects the strengths of Alma and Primo when it comes to the unified management of a rapidly increasing number of electronic resources across a library network."
