DeKalb County Public Library chooses robust Innovative solution To support 22 branches

Press Release: Innovative Interfaces, Inc. [September 14, 2017]

Emeryville, CA. Innovative Interfaces, a leading provider of library automation software that empowers libraries globally, is pleased to announce the DeKalb County Public Library in Decatur, GA selected the Polaris Web Application to support 22 branches across the county.

During the selection process, DeKalb County Public Library focused on finding a solution to provide a richer patron experience, integration with Overdrive records, and a robust acquisitions component.

"Offering responsive service to our patrons is very important to us at DeKalb," said Jenny LaJeunesse, Automation Coordinator. "We needed a solution that not only made the staff more efficient, but gave patrons easier access to resources. Polaris was feature rich and made it easier to work through patron account information. We are pleased to give our patrons a user-friendly way to interact with Overdrive checkouts, manage their own account passwords, and choose e-receipts."

As one robust shared platform capable of supporting a large amount of data, Polaris helps the library fulfill its mission to meet the changing information needs of the DeKalb community. It will give patrons consistent access to print and the ability to download Overdrive eContent straight from the catalog, enhancing the library's overall investment in eContent as demand continues to grow.

DeKalb also needed an acquisitions component that could readily handle holdings in a sizeable library. Faster acquisitions processes allow DeKalb to display materials quickly. Patrons can place holds as soon as new records are created. This speed and efficiency is essential for a library that serves over 551,000 patrons with an annual circulation of 2.7 million.

Strongly committed to continuing education services, DeKalb was impressed with the Innovative training team and the go-live transition to Polaris. The implementation experience required no significant downtime. In a single day, the staff was trained and back in their respective branches, ready to serve their patrons.

"We used the train the trainer mode to give all staff four hours of training on the web-based interface in advance of go-live," explained LaJeunesse. "They were ready to serve their patrons at opening day after we went live."

"We had very specific selection requirements and involved a lot of library staff in our decision making," said LaJeunesse. "We took this process very seriously and are confident we made the best choice possible for our patrons and our staff."

"Innovative is pleased to see how DeKalb County Public Library members are already benefitting from our Polaris Web Application," said Innovative CEO Jim Tallman. "Engaging patron experiences are a must for today's libraries. That's what drives us—to keep developing and evolving responsive, forward-thinking solutions that ensure libraries deliver increasing value to their patrons."

DeKalb County Public Library migrated from a SirsiDynix Horizon solution and went live on Polaris early this summer. For more information on the value of Polaris for public libraries, visit the Innovative website.
