OAKDALE, MN (June 15, 2017) - Robert "Bob" Rohlf, a legend of the library profession, consultant, and co-founder of Tech Logic Corporation, has passed away. Bob's career as a librarian spanned more than forty years and included directorship and executive roles at Hennepin County Public Library (HCPL), Minneapolis Public Library, Dakota-Scott Regional Library, and The Library of Congress where he was the Administrative Director. After retiring from HCPL Bob led the Robert Rohlf Associates consulting firm utilizing numerous library experts to provide professional advice for new building projects around the world.
During his tenure at HCPL, Bob recognized the need for more efficient handling processes for the millions of items being returned to the library. The manual labor required by his staff was grueling and caused numerous injuries and Workers Compensation claims. Bob knew there had to be a better and a quicker way to handle materials. Twenty years ago in 1997, he formed Tech Logic, and invented Automated Material Handling Systems (AMH) for libraries. Soon after, the world's first AMH system was installed in the Greensboro Public Library, NC and is still operational today. Since that time, Tech Logic (a US owned company) has designed, manufactured, installed and maintained hundreds of AMH system around the world.
Gary Kirk, President of Tech Logic commented, "Bob was a giant in the library world. He was a true champion of libraries, and loved dreaming of ways to make libraries better. As a founder, stockholder and Board member of Tech Logic his experience and friendship was very influential to the success of the company. We are grateful for the time we had with him and will miss him dearly."
