Cooperative Computer Services latest library consortium in the Greater Chicago Area to choose Innovative

Press Release: Innovative Interfaces, Inc. [June 9, 2017]

Emeryville, CA—Innovative Interfaces, a leading provider of library automation software that empowers libraries globally, is pleased to announce Cooperative Computer Services (CCS) has selected the Polaris integrated library system to serve 24 public libraries across the north and northwest suburbs of Chicago.

With 1.1 million bibliographic records, CCS provides access to technology support and learning to more than 800,000 patrons combined. Over 60 staff members participated in the process to select an automation solution that would increase staff mobile access and opportunities for patron engagement, while delivering an optimal patron experience across multiple devices.

"Choosing an ILS for a consortium is as important as it is complex. That's why we conducted a transparent, collaborative search and relied on participation from all of our member libraries," said Rebecca Malinowski, Executive Director, CCS. "Ultimately our teams decided that Polaris's cloud-based system, responsive PowerPAC design, and intuitive web application would both benefit library staff and keep a strong focus on serving the public."

The Polaris ILS was built with public library consortia in mind, providing a robust and scalable solution open to connections with third-party vendors. The Web Application, part of the Polaris suite of products, enables staff to check materials in and out via a tablet or laptop from virtually any community locale.

Malinowski said library staff are eager to start making improvements at both patron and staff levels when training begins in September.

"Our transition to Polaris provides a great opportunity for CCS to examine our workflows, reconsider our processes, and find the best ways to increase efficiency," said Malinowski. "We were impressed by Innovative's professional services and are excited to work with the trainers to see how Polaris can enhance our patron experience in the future."

CCS is implementing a strategic plan to create a more nimble organization focusing on innovation and efficiencies, an initiative that aligns well with Innovative's goals to drive sustainable growth through emerging library technologies.

"We are truly pleased to welcome CCS to a growing list of Innovative partners throughout the state of Illinois," said Innovative CEO Jim Tallman. "CCS has a mission to promote innovation and efficiency among their member libraries and deliver a reliable, user-friendly experience for the library patrons. The Innovative Polaris system is the perfect ILS solution to support their mission and enable their future."

CCS will migrate from a SirsiDynix Symphony solution when the consortium goes live on Polaris in April 2018. For more information on the value of Polaris for public libraries, visit the Innovative website.
