PROVO, Utah, January 29, 2016 –– The new year is off to an accelerated start at Backstage Library Works (www.bslw.com) as their automated services department takes on new and innovative projects. Backstage continues to expedite processes, implement new technologies and allow libraries more customized settings than any other service provider.
In addition to implementing Library of Congress' RDA enrichment requirements, Backstage is taking the lead in creating supplemental RDA elements that will benefit its clients. Backstage is adding 344, 345, 346, and 347 fields to bibliographic records. Options under consideration are other 38x fields in addition to the 382, 383 and 384 fields currently in place. Overall, Backstage processed nearly 80 million records in 2015.
New authority control projects have included:
- Suffolk County Library System, New York
- Eastern Shores Library System, Wisconsin
- Round Rock Public Library, Texas
- Linn Libraries Consortium, Oregon
Nate Cothran, vice president of automation services for Backstage states:
"We have had a great set of libraries come onboard recently. We love to work with clients who may have had some particular issue about their records that needed a creative solution that's eluded them thus far. Providing authority control and RDA enrichments to their files will go a long way towards maintaining the consistency in their records and affording better access for their patrons."
