Abstract: Key word indexing techniques are being used at the University of California, Berkeley, to improve access to serial titles in the libraries of the campus. The system developed for this purpose has involved new looks at problems of machine sorting and word recognition, and has resulted in a multipurpose system for creating bibliographic listings from MARC-format records.
