Vancouver, Canada -- June 19, 2014. Lucidea Corporation announces that the City of Richmond, through its Community Services and Information Technology Departments has adopted the ARGUS.net platform as their cultural assets management system.
The City's vision is "to be the most appealing, livable and well-managed community in Canada". The City and its community partners strive to collect, document, research, exhibit and interpret objects of historical and cultural significance which help to tell the story of Richmond.
In support of that vision, the ARGUS.net system will allow staff, for the first time, to offer:
- Increased visibility via web access to arts, heritage and cultural assets
- Improved collection management, covering multiple collections
- Long term sustainability, with an evergreen strategy for future growth
- Cost effectiveness, via "software as a subscription"
Increased visibility and operational efficiency
With ARGUS.net, the City will be able to provide access to its collections online, offering visibility and public access, as well as visitor self-service. City staff can focus more time on preserving, building and sharing the collection because of the seamless integration between the "behind the scenes" catalog and the public facing portal which makes administration of the system fast and easy. Staff can now showcase the current collections (in real-time), using built-in tools that enable them to push specific information (such as new contributions to the collection) through the portal directly to the community.
Improved collection management
ARGUS.net is designed specifically for museum collection management. The purpose built administrative tools and intuitive web portal streamline staff workflow, and are especially powerful for multiple collections, easily extending to heritage sites, art galleries and media labs. With ARGUS.net, City staff can easily access and apply standard collection management practices across each of the collections, significantly increasing access to information and revealing related content that was previously inaccessible.
Long term sustainability
The City of Richmond's needs are ever changing and evolving with the community. With ARGUS.net's tools, staff can easily adapt both the collection and public facing portal to city and community needs as desired. There is no limit to the types of information formats that can be catalogued or to the number of digital attachments that can be added to each collection. Whether they are video, audio, images, text, or spreadsheets, there will always be a home for the City's arts, heritage and cultural assets.
Cost effectiveness
Collection management projects of this scope often fail because the costly software development fees exceed budgets typically associated with cultural preservation initiatives. Because it is built for purpose, based on industry proven architecture and updated based on lessons learned through world-wide collection management initiatives, ARGUS.net is ready for use, out of the box, without the need for custom development. It is deployed and accessed fully over the web, with support across multiple browsers and devices, including IE, Safari, Firefox and Chrome. This significantly reduces start-up and ongoing operational expenses for collection staff and the IT department.
The ARGUS.net software as a subscription (SaaS) model enables the City to focus project funding on collection management, preservation and accessibility rather than on costly software development, putting public dollars to work where they will have the most visible impact.
