Dutch institution chooses OCLC WorldShare Management Services

Press Release: OCLC [December 18, 2013]

18 December 2013. The Theological University of the Reformed Churches in Kampen (TU Kampen), is the second Dutch institute to start using OCLC WorldShare Management Services (WMS) in its university library for its scientific theological collection.

The TU Kampen belongs to the first group of libraries to start collectively cataloguing its collection in the GGC (OCLC's shared cataloguing and metadata management system in the Netherlands). Early in the 1990s, they started using OCLC's solutions for library management. Their unique and specialised collection is also available in WorldCat (via the GGC).

"The most important reason for the TU Kampen to transfer to WorldShare Management Services is the opportunity to collaborate on an international scale," says Geert Harmanny, Librarian, TU Kampen. "After all the budget cuts in the Netherlands, not many specialised libraries remain. We have a lot of material that is unique to the Netherlands. We already contribute a lot of information to the GGC from WorldCat. Cataloguing in WorldCat is a logical next step, and therefore we will be the first library to catalogue directly in WorldCat using WMS."

With WMS, employees of the university library can work more efficiently on back-office processes for electronic content as well as the physical collection while disclosing different types of content for their end users.
